Positive group oy surveyed in July 2022 to find out how employees feel about working remotely (1)
Employees enjoy the different aspects of working remotely.
In particular, they praised the fact that they didn't have to travel to work every day (68%) and were able to spend more time with people close to them (44%).
Financial savings were enjoyed by 35% of people.
These are usually the reasons why people continue to work remotely.
According to a Positive Group survey, 91% of respondents now work remotely in some form - the most common model being hybrid working. And 98% of respondents can recommend working remotely.
Above you can see the respondents' reasons and strengths for remote working.
A common misconception is that working remotely should be the same as working in an office but from home. This is not the point of teleworking. Teleworking and office work both have their advantages and disadvantages.
For organizations, teleworking has clear advantages, such as saving money on office space. This is where we at Steerpath can help. We can help your business to map out your real office needs based on data. How much space do you need? What is your real office occupancy rate?
In addition, all age groups have reported significant improvements in productivity and workload management when working remotely versus in the office.
Trip.com conducted a study of 1600 employees which showed that workers at home were much more efficient than those in the office. (because they could work fewer hours in a week).
The downside of working remotely is that it's harder for workers to connect and communicate with their teams remotely.
Some work just requires being on-site with the team.
Surprisingly, older millennials (35-44 year-olds) reported telecommuting as 3X more important than those under 35. What was the reason for this? There were several reasons. For one, this age group had significantly more children than those under 35. They had to juggle family 'caring responsibilities', which made teleworking significantly more important.
For some of the workers, family values are important, so teleworking/hybrid work is a perfect fit for them.
In contrast, younger generations - Generation Z and younger millennials (26-34 year-olds) - expressed greater concern that telecommuting might block opportunities that would help them develop their career skills.
For this generation, who are just starting their careers - personal and professional growth played an important role in their lives.
There are clear benefits to teleworking, but teleworking alone may not be the answer to everything. People at different stages of their careers and lives have different priorities for work, which affects their work preferences and experiences.
People who are trying to develop their careers - may want more support and guidance, while people balancing family life may value more flexibility.
This is why hybrid work is a solution to the problem. Bringing telework and office work together to make the most of every employee in the company.
